Confession, I am not technically minded so would love a short and sweet answer.
I have a host of UK DVDs I brought over with me, we went to The Future shop, told the guy what we needed and hey walked away with a new DVD player. We now find it is selective to which DVDs it will play, I can watch my UK collection as long as they are marked up as PAL, the others that say Region 2 it rejects.
I would like a straight forward DVD player that will play all my UK DVDs (PAL, Region 2, whatever) and I can also watch the latest release from blockbusters etc.
I would really appreciate any suggestions.
Many thanks.

I'm not in Canada, so I don't know what is available in the market but I know that you can change the region of your DVD by entering a factory code which can even set it as a multi region player. Check with your seller or contact the dealer of the brand you bought. in Kuwait, I just took it to the seller and in front of me, he entered the code and solve the problem. I do't know if this is illegal but as you paid for your player, you should have the right to use it.

Which exact model of DVD player have you bought? Pretty much all of them can be made multi-region now. I'd suggest visiting google and searching on "your model multiregion code"

Yes that's right... all dvd players play all regions, but they have been locked out to certain regions. to unlock just simply google your dvd player model with the words 'unlock code' and you should come up with the codes and instuctions of how to enter them.

I don't think your player is multi-region because before we hacked the code of our player some DVDs did play but most didn't. It had more to do with how the DVD was made rather than the player being temperamental.
Have a look here to see if your player hack code is listed.

Not all DVD players will let you hack them especially some of the more expensive one's.
We bought a $40 dollar phillips player from Walmart DVP3140 and went on

Searched for the model, entered the code and hey presto it plays all our UK DVD's as well as our NTSC ones.
It's not the best player in the world but it does the job.
