Default Advice on Imminent Reccy

Hello peeps

Well, Happy New Year to you all - hope you had a lovely Christmas break

Just a wee bit of background - OH is a plumber and we have done a number of visits to the area we want to move to, Ottawa, and are going out on a reccy again in Feb09 (cricky, only 6 weeks away). We are doing this visit in an effort to try to secure work for hubby to get out on a TWP. (and also to experience the weather at its harshest!)

My question is this, is there any merit in applying for PR now before we go, so it can be ticking away in the background? I have read THE LIST on Wiki and we are on it! But I don't want to take anything for granted so am trying to prepare as much as poss. What then happens when/if you apply for a TWP? Do you write to CIC advising that you are going down this new road?

We have family in Ottawa (not immediate sadly) but a good support network all the same. So the aim is to email Resume's etc to them to first proof read, then for them to email out to anyone they know too!

Also, does it matter if OH secures a job at the supermarket or does it HAVE to be in his field of expertise? I would obviously much prefer him to get a job in his field but if this proves to be difficult initially, how would this affect the PR application if we did it now? we are going to be living off one wage for a while as we have a child who will be part time in kindergarten for a while (who's idea was it to only let kids go to school part time anyway!) He does full time here, but he would have another whole year of 9am-12am in ON. Feels like a slight step back, but I'd do anything to get over there......

Any help or advice gratefully received.

To qualify for immigration your OH would have to get a job offer in his profession and where he has experience. He would not get a work permit or qualify for PR with just any job. Also, jobs must not be taking employment away from other PR or Canadians.
