Hi All
Firstly I'm so glad I found this forum. I'll just put you in the picture on our situation (me and my wife) and would welcome any advice. We got our PR last year and went out to Vancouver Island (Victoria) for six weeks we came back to hopefully sort the house sale. That didn't happen and in the meantime we have saved and saved, as well as look for jobs.
I'm now at the point where we can go out in August and pay rent on a place and live without working for six months. I work in the Community Development (Older People) field and was thinking of volunteering for 2 days a week and working the rest. Suppose my question is do we wait until next year for things to pick up or does anyone out there think I should have no problem getting a job in this field on VI. Any advice appreciated.

I personally think that six months is not a very long time to be able to live on without income while jobhunting.
But that's a hunch only

If you're prepared to take any job for the sake of an income while you look to re-establish your chosen career in Canada then I would have thought 6 months is a perfectly reasonable timescale to get the ball well and truly rolling.
Perhaps it's an option for you to rent your UK property (contribute to / exceed your mortgage payments) and keep it as an investment until the market in the UK picks up again, which it will eventually, it always does.
I vote go for it!

There are agents who will do that for you. Plus, keeping the house means you've got a fall back should you ever need to return to the UK. Perhaps there's even someone you know might be interested in renting, giving you real peace of mind that the house is being looked after.
