Default Adoption in Canada

Regardless of whether we end up in Canada or not, we'd love to adopt a child in the future. If we were to end up over there, does anyone know how this would work? Has anyone done it? From a brief internet search it sounds pretty um... difficult (given that I'm 30 years old now)

I found a site that said you needed to be a Canadian Citizen. I'm told you can only apply for citizenship after three years. If my partner's granted a temporary work permit upon entry to Canada, and needs to apply for a permanant one first, I'm guessing this will hold up the possibility of citizenship too... Then you've got the whole adoption process on top of that....

Also, what happens if you wanted to return to the UK? And would you child have duel nationality?

Hi

We're not citizens yet but have adopted a child while in Canada. It's difficult and expensive, but certainly not impossible. Contact me privately if you like and I can fill you in with all the details.

As for citizenship - our child arrived on a Chinese passport as a PR, we then paid about 1000 pounds for UK citizenship to be processed as it's NOT automatic if you adopt and then when/if we apply to be Canadians we'll just apply for her too at that point so we can all have dual nationality.

Oh, and we had considered adopting before we emigrated and to be honest the process here was a lot easier than we'd discovered it would have been in the UK !!

Good luck!

HI Scrapcat,
Can you please send me a message. I have some questions about adoption but I haven't posted enough messages on this forum to email you. Thanks in advance and congratulations on your successful adoption!
