Hi,
You could try the Best Western Lodge and conference centre in Vernon. They've got a small "Center parcs" type pool in the middle of the hotel, the kids would love it!
I've no idea of the cost, but all the Best Westerns I've stayed in have all been clean and fairly well priced. Of course I'm sure there are some exceptions.
There are two Best Westerns in Vernon the other is a more basic (but cheaper!) motel.
I'm afraid I can't remember where we stayed in Kelowna during our recce. Sorry.
We love Vernon and the surrounding area and have had a house out there for five years. We landed in June, became PR's and are moving out permanently on Dec 22nd. Can't wait!!!
Have fun!
Cheers!

Ist time poster, so please be gentle, although a long time reader.
We visited Vancouver once in 2007 we loved it so much visiting our friends, that we've applied to come over, three years down the line under the old system the embassy dont exactly contact you often. It's been 15 months since we heard anything now, when they asked us if we wished our application to continue.
But we did the Grouse Grind Whistler and the whale watching at Stevestone ( spelling?).
So hopefully soon we will need the recce results for ourselves.
ps We've a 9 year old son who loves sports. How has everyone found it with their children settling in?
regards

By the way, when we first went to Grouse Mountain we did it on public transport. Walked to the sea bus terminal, crossing, bus park at terminal on other side and bus up to base of Grouse Mountain where you get the cable cars. Very pleasant journey (but it was August!).

I suppose you're all right. Grouse Mountain is worth doing - at least once. The last time we went up it was early December before the Olympics (my pic is from the very place!). It was cold, the bears had hibernated, Santa was on a fag break, we were tired, the snow was too cold, the sun was too bright and I stood next to a "gentleman" who spent the whole gondola ride up clearing his throat and smelling faintly "odd"; oh, and for a family of four I think it was close to $100.
I have to admit, the first time we did the trip to the top, it was just the two of us - 10 years earlier. We drank hot chocolates, took pics, gazed into each others eyes etc etc. A rather different experience to "are we there yet? How much further? I need a wee!" so I guess my last experience probably isn't being entirely fair on the mountain - sorry....

Vancouver Island is def worth a visit, but with 2 days one entire day would be a write-off. A better use of time would be to take the coach down to Whistler - the drive alone is spectacular.

It is expensive for a family. I had family here may last year and they were blown away.

Another must (kids will love it) is getting one of the aqua buses across false creek over to granville island or vanier park (there's a maritime museam there that's also worth a visit).

Hi
A quick note, remember the Giants play at the Pacific Colosseum at Hastings Park, not the Roger's Centre where the Canucks play. Take the skytrain to 29th Ave. Sta. and then 16 Arbutus bus to Hastings and Renfrew and it is about a 3 block walk to the Colosseum.
Thanks everyone for the quick and good responses
So the beginning of the recce is sorted and coming together - taxi from the airport to Sandman hotel, a giants game the night after we arrive (my youngest plays hockey so that's a great idea!), grouse mountain and possibly the aquarium during the day.
Just need to donuts same for Vernon and the couple of days in Kelowna and I'll be a happy man - and hopefully the OH will be 'warming' to the idea again. Hehe
Thanks again and keep the ideas coming. It all helps.
