Hi All .
I have just today accepted a job offer in Vancouver . I'm in U.K. My prospective employer is going to apply for approval to offer me employment . He wants me to go for P.R. If he gets approval and I apply for P.R. immigration say the process can take upto 2 years . He seems to think though that because there is a labour shortage in B.C. it might be through in 2 months - 6 months .
Anyone know if this may be correct ?
Thanks

I'm not sure that having a job offer speeds things up if you are applying from the UK - I think the only thing it does is give your PR application another 10 points?
Your employers best bet by a mile is for you to apply for a temporary work permit which will be much quicker. You can then apply for PR once in Canada on that, and it will be fasttracked as you'll already be living and working there. That makes much more sense to me.
Hope that helps.

If you take a look on the Wiki there is a ton of information about the work permit process.

Ya he has just emailed me and says that he is applying for LMO but that he spoke to immigration employee and was told that there is a waiting list of 7 months before review ! He has written an letter of urgency to try to speed things up and expects an answer in a week .
What might the timeline be if we apply for temp . res . Maybe I should suggest going that route to him ? ( I could do with a few months to get our affairs in order , myself , wife , 2 kids and 2 dogs )

My friend has been waiting (in Canada) for a LMO approval since August. Yes she did have a problem and her employer ended up reapplying in Oct/Nov. It has just been approved in Vancouver and she has been told it will be another 4-6 weeks to get the paperwork through.
Congrats on the job offer though! Hope all the paperwork goes smothly for you

Then the Provincial nominee program is the way to go.
http://www.ecdev.gov.bc.ca/ProgramsA...o_appforms.htm
You prospective employer needs to fill out most of the forms. You have to fill out the draft CIC forms. Your employer pays a fee of $500. The PNP people turn these around in about 2 months and send you a letter to let you know that you are approved.
You can use this letter to apply for a temporary work permit so you will be on the job within three months. You then send your letter with your application for permanent residence to CIC who process it on a priority basis. Assuming you pass CIC's criteria (health, good conduct etc) you could have permanent residence approved at about the same time as Service Canada come up with an LMO

Sounds good to me . Ill have to pass that on to him . Just been looking at police clearance . Will need to get U.K. and U.S.A. for myself and Australia for OH . Scary stuff . May hold everything up. Would I need this clearance going the PNP route or later when applying for PR ?
Wouldnt be too bad if waiting for clearance but already in Canada working temp. Would I have time to get clearance if applying for PR later while in Canada ?
Just getting my head around it all !
Thanks

I have read through the CIC site on PNP and it looks good to me Thanks Jonboye you have been a great help .
Just the one more query for the moment if anyone can be of assistance .
When in Canada on PNP Temp Visa and I apply for Permanent Residency will I have the time to get Police clearance as I think one may take up to 4-5 months from U.S. authorities . In other words is there a time limit on the application ?

Not as far as I know. The urgency will depend upon the length of work permit you are given. I can't imagine there will be a problem if you apply in reasonable time given your circumstances. However, this is just a guess - I have no knowledge to back this up.

Hi Guys well done on the job offer . Yes the PNP is the fastest way to go I've taken this route ( destination vancouver ) as an Electrician . I used Tricontinental Global Services www.jobscearch-in-canada.com they're immigration & employment consultants CSIC registered. Due to the job offer your application is fast tracked I started our application June 07 application was approved approx 7 weeks later Not sure what happened next but application sent to CIC in London Got a letter from them ( CIC ) Dec 07informing us to go for our medicals and to get police checks done . I to had to get checks done from my time on OZ and the US . The fee for the OZ checks where
A$93.63 and for the US US$20 you will have to submit a set of finger prints which can be done at HQ in Kidlington £60 for first set and £30 for each additional sets
