hi there ,
this is my first post in this forum..
We are planning to move to Alberta Canada in couple of months time .
.
and planning to bring our household stuff along with us , which obviously would be quite too much to bring on the aircraft with us.
so can you please advise us about any good shipping company and the whole process , which you might have used in the past when you were at our stage...
Can we swap our British driving licenses with the Canadian ones straight away?
What if we want to Bring our cars over to Canada? Has any one done it or is it just a silly idea?
Any advice/help regarding above question will be highly appreciated.
Kind Regards,

Are you coming in on TWPs or actually landing (becoming PRs).
It will make a difference.

Welcome.
Plenty of previous threads with recommended shipping companies on if you want to have a hunt, and there is also info in the Wiki about driving licences etc.
Good luck with the move.

As for swapping driving licences, this varies between each Province. You mention you will be coming to Alberta, which is where we are, and you'll be pleased to know that, yes, you can just swap your licence over. You simply attend one of the local registry offices to do this. You will have to surrender your UK licence to them and undertake a very simple eye test and they will hand you a temporary licence and your permanent one will arrive by post to you a couple of weeks later. You have three months in which do do it once you move here.
Don't really know anything about bringing cars over; I think I may have read something about only being able to if its over a certain age or something. Hopefully someone in the know will come along and help you on that one. Besides, its probably a lot of bother and expense to do so.
Best of luck with it all.

Hi
We have just moved to Calgary, our stuff has just arrived 13 weeks later. We used Pickfords, they were excellent. Packed it all up for us in the Uk and unpacked it all here. Also we costed out the cost of shipping some of our furniture V replacing it here, we just brought out some that we could not replace and sold the rest and brought new here.
A tip for getting extra baggage on the plane, if you book a premium class seat with Air Transat you get 40Kgs if you mention you are emigrating, this really helped us traveling with a small child and this did not include his car seat/buggy and some other bits and pieces.
Good Luck
