2024 Canada tax - accountant let us down
#1
We moved back to the UK in May 2024 and our accountant at the well known company (green and white) that we have used for 17 years had arranged to file our 2024 January to April taxes. However after sending her all our information we have heard nothing more from her and she appears to be ignoring all our emails. As we have never filed ourselves before we are approaching the deadline feeling daunted. Can anyone recommend an alternative company in B.C or the UK that could help us with this? Thanks.

As the filing deadline is approaching I am guessing you are wondering if your accountant has filed your tax return? Is it just a simple personal income tax return or something more complicated. It does become somewhat complicated as a number of factors come into play. Here are a few links that might assist you
Who needs to file a return

A quick way to find out if the return was submitted is to have a CRA account

Maybe your accountant thinks you might be exempt from filing a return however it seems unprofessional for her not to reply unless she cannot (been sacked, hospitalized, on vacation or some other reason not to have access to her business email). Of course being British you could send a strongly worded email to that establishment and politely tell them you are not happy with their services.

After spending all day yesterday doing the forms myself the accountant finally emailed at 6pm UK time to say she was still filing for us. I’m pretty disgusted at having wasted a whole day just because she was “too busy†to let us know this a week ago.

My accountant is like a doctor in flu season with people lined up at their practice.
They then shut the door in May and work part time remote till January and the flu season starts again.
