We have been here for just over 2 weeks now and have loved every minute so far! The first few days were absolutely manic but it seemed so easy to get everything set up, we managed to register for medicare, get our drivers licenses switched over, got our SIN numbers and opened a bank account all before lunch the first morning we were here. I was astounded it was all so quick and easy. We were also expecting not to be able to get credit cards but we were offered them when we opened the bank account which was a nice bonus, so now we can start building a credit rating.
Last week we bought a car and the insurance was about half the amount we were expecting to pay as they accepted my no claim bonus (still a lot more expensive than in the UK though) and at the weekend we signed the lease for an apartment.
I'd have to say apartment hunting has been the hardest part. We originally wanted to get a month to month rental so that we could buy a house in a few months time but all the month to month lets we saw were what I would describe as only a few steps above a crack den. So we signed up to a years lease which probably isn't a bad thing as it will alow us to get to know the areas better and let someone else deal with snow removal this winter.
So our first 2 weeks have been fantastic and we haven't had a single 'oh my god what have we done' moment since getting here
