I think you misunderstood, what I was saying is that at no Loblaw's brand store in Calgary do they bag your groceries for you, I think the only place they do is the Co-op. Maybe Safeway if you need help.

Lately? It's gone up in price substantially the last couple of months due to a shortage of oranges. I bought some at Albertson's in the US not long ago and it was $7.99 there, but Albertson's is quite pricey usually.
I find quite a few things in Sobey's where they're taking the p.

I figured bagging was a universal thing in the more expensive stores. Live and learn.

**** me, you'd think you lot had moved to Canada to live in abject poverty where worrying about the price of groceries is constant daily stress.
I thought we all moved for a better quality of life, not spend it shuffling around multiple stores looking for bargains to save a few cents
Its seems many Western immigrants always have something to complain about whether it be the media hyperbole in the UK, or the price of groceries in Canada.
Just be ****ing happy with what you have right now and stop wasting energy on things that don't really matter.
Amen

1. Am I just shopping in the wrong places or are paracetamol and ibruprofen just ridiculously expensive in Canada?
2. What is the supermarket hierarchy in Ontario? I shopped at Loblaws the other day and it seemed quite pricey, is Sobeys pricier?
I can see most of you shaking your heads at this thread thinking 'typical newbie, she'll learn'
Many thanks

I'm not comparing with the UK, I'm comparing with other stores in Canada and other parts of Canada.
I spend a lot on pharmacy stuff because of medical problems, it is worth shopping around. And it's not just about saving money either, different stores have different things. I find Sobey's has a better choice of potato chips for example, at least my local one does as they carry chips made by a local manufacturer, but I wouldn't shop there for most things as they're way more expensive than Loblaw's.

Besides, for people with average incomes why the hell would you spend more than you have to?

Re: 2 questions from a just landed newbie
Thanks everyone for your posts. I'm certainly not complaining, we feel very blessed to be out here living this life. However, like Iaink says, I have 2 small kids and I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being unnecessarily frivolous, for all I knew Loblaws could've been the m & s of Canada and although I would prob do a shop there once a month back in the uk, it's not somewhere I would go to do my weekly big shop. Thanks again everyone. Xx

Stuff that, he's talking nonsense, if you don't shop for the best deal what incentive do they have to offer good prices? It's called supply and demand and consumers are expected to act rationally. I mean if supermarket A is a long way from supermarket B, I could understand paying the difference because of the gas but if they're close together, why not walk across the road and get a better deal buying at two different stores?
