We are not at liberty to admit to the UK government being behind this phenomenon. However, we Brits have virtually got Cochrane and Okotoks in Alberta wrapped up - it's been a slow take-over but we're almost complete. The rest of the country is coming along nicely ....

The article is 10 months old and written in time of a booming Alberta economy. Fortunately police officers are not usually affected by economic downturns, more likely more needed as crime tends to rise in such times.
I don't think there's much doubt that Canadians respect their police more than do Brits in UK.

The homicide rate is pretty stable actually and still very, very low for a city of over a million...around 25-30 people per year I think it averages. Mostly gang or domestics. Crime here is nothing like back home in the UK. Please don't believe all you hear about Calgary...it's still a very nice place to be and doesn't compare to urban centre's back in the UK.

Looking at Calgary, by the time you add up English and Scottish, we're over 40%. The Irish make up a further 15%. I don't know what happened to the Welsh - they seem to be letting the side down!
