Default The 10,000 dollar question

Hello all,

Just wondering if any of you can shed any light on this for me

I will transfer some funds from my UK bank account to my Canadian bank account but wondering is. . .

will I have to pay a tax on this transfer as the amount coming into Canada is over the $10,000 limit or does that only apply to the funds that you carry with when entering/landing in Canada?

Anybody know?

Also how much funds am I expected to have by immigration when I arrive? - I heard somewhere that it should equate to 3 months living expenses but does anybody know of a figure?

I will land on the 27th of July but have a job staring the 25th of August does this fact that I have a job reduce the amount of funds I should have?

Answers to any of the above would be gratefully received ESPECIALLY regarding the $10,000 limit and if it also applies to bank transfers.

Many thanks,

Michael

I don't know anything about skilled worker stuff but the 10,000 CAD isn't a tax-free limit, it's just the threshold beyond which you should declare your money to the customs peoples. There's no tax, they just need to know who's bringing what into the country to comply with international money laundering regulations.

We declared this last trip, walked through the red channel but the customs guys were more interested in chatting amongst themselves and didn't ask any questions about the money. We had a copy of our housesale letter to show the funds were legit but it wasn't asked for and we needn't have had it.

10k limit is for money laundering detection, not tax, so dont worry about that.

The immigration requirements are here
