Default Moving to Amsterdam

Hi i know this question must pop up all the time but i am looking to get as much information on moving to amsterdam as possible. I would not be looking to move for at least 6months and am on a bit of a fact finding mission. I would mainly like to know how hard it is for a non-dutch speaker to find employment in the city and ultimately how hard it is to make such a move. If any of you could share your wisdom i would be very grateful.

Thanks

dave

As you know it all comes down to whether you can find a job or not. If you find a well paying job then living in Amsterdam is easy. If you are working in a bar or something then you will end up having to live in a not so nice area and spending a lot of time travelling to and from work.
As for how easy it is - you get on a plane and that's it. OK you have to go to the tax office to get a social security number (you just need your passport), you have to open a bank account (again passport and an employment contract helps if you want any frills) and of course get a job and find a place to live. But that's it.
Now the hard part is the job. If you work in finance or IT then you will have no trouble finding a job speaking only English. It's the unskilled jobs that you will have no luck with.
And as you can live and work there freely there's no need to get a job to sponsor you to go, it just makes life a lot easier if you have a job to go to and hopefully someone to pay for the relocation.

Is it really that hard to live and go out in amsterdam if you do a bar job or something? how far out (in travel time) are the cheaper/nastier houses?

For those sorts of jobs if you have no Fluency in Dutch then those sorts of jobs may not be available for you.

Hi, I am moving to Amsterdam in July and will be working in Koog aan de Zaan (20min train journey from Amsterdam centraal station). I currently live in Greater London. 30% my time will involve international travel, so I don't want to pay too much for a place I wont be staying in. What are good areas to live in, I am willing to share?

Thanks

LAKI
