job prospects for a carpenter in holland
Hi hope any one can offer advice on this subject.
MY wife and i have long since discussed a move out of England .We have two teenage daughters who both are desperate to leave the country usual reasons .England is on its knees ,crime is on the rise ,and basically they dont feel safe here .
France is ruled out and a move further afield ie Canada and Oz are not an option .
I have been to Holland before and like the country .The people seem friendly enough and the language barrier doesnt seem to be too much of an issue ,although obviously we would make every possible attempt to learn the language .
Is the work out there for carpenters ?.i do have a pension to fall back on as i am a retired Police officer and my former trade is that of a carpenter of which i have been doing for the past six years .
I have looked at the property market and the prices seem reasonable and the areas appear to be nice .
Any advice would be greatly appreciated from people out there good or bad
Many thanks

Hi Woodworker,
There is work here for carpenters/joiners of course but the more Dutch you can speak, the better your chances of employment will be basically.
You can do an online search for 'uitzendbureau' which is an agency and there are dozens of them dotted all around the country so try one in the area you prefer to live in/move to.
I myself work for an agency that specialises in work for British/Irish personnel working here and still operating under the UK tax system but the contracts we have are really only temporary jobs although enough good workers have been able to turn their jobs into permanent employment.

Thanks Lexy we are at the moment looking at the different areas to live but the listed estate agents on the net are not brilliant .
i dont mind the short term contracts but obviously if something more permanent came up that would be better .
what type of work do the agencies undertake ?
I am experienced in all aspects of carpentry first and second fix on both new builds and renovation projects on mills and barns etc i have also worked on the nostel priory stately home .
Many thanks for your reply
