Default Been living here for a few years, don't want to move back to England.

Okay so I've been living here for a few years now, had my ups and downs made friends, lost friends, etc.

I'm currently living in Groningen and my problem is that I do not have an actual home to stay in as of right now. Every day I'm looking for work hoping and praying that something will come along. I can't apply for welfare because their system says that I haven't worked since I've lived here but I've had two paper delivery jobs which I was paid for.

Let me clear about how much I do NOT want to leave. I have been and am willing to fight until the end if I have to. All of my friends are here, my fondest memories, my happiest times. If I move back to England then I will be utterly miserable.

I don't HAVE to move back to England it's just that I cannot find work and my money is slowly running out. To be honest I've been in tears few times in total despair, I wake up feeling sick from sadness.

I just need one little thing, just one, to give me hope. I have considered becoming a student but you have to pay for that unless you don't have to pay for it right away and I also limits which courses I can take. I'm not wanting to become a student just to stay here, it is something that I have considered in the past and right now my life has changed a lot so I see it as an opportunity.

To be honest I'm sick of sitting in this hostel room alone thinking about, dreading, what I might have to do. I truly truly feel that my home is here and I mean that with all of my heart.

Can I get some advice? Should I look into becoming a student? Where can I even look for work if I can't talk Dutch 100% should I move back to England, learn Dutch fully and then come back to better find work? I just know that if I leave I wont want to come back because leaving will be too painful.

Like I said I am willing to fight even if it means moving to a different region of the Netherlands I will do it if it means bettering my chances! I am that determined to stay here and fight for this.

To be honest if moving to a different part of the Netherlands was my only other option then so be it but moving back to England is a major no no for me right now. My Dutch language course starts again in August and I know it will help me but there's a big gap between now and then so what am I to do? Can I even become a student and then work from there, find a job, get my own place and such?

Any advice?

For the student loan/grant, you must start the course before your 29th birthday. After that, you're on your own financially. You know if you qualify, in terms of age and entry qualifications; you need A levels or equivalent if you want a HBO, which seems to be the lowest level they teach anything in English.

If you get offered a place, you can apply for a student room - and look carefully for one which lets you get huurtoeslag. In total my son (who lives away from home and so gets the top allowance) receives a smidge over a thousand per month, and out of this you pay the college/Uni about 200 per month for the course fees, your health insurance (students definitely qualify for zorgtoeslag, so will get about 80 per month off the taxman towards health insurance), leaving you with about 700 for housing, food, and everything else. You also get a free travel-anywhere public transport card for the duration of your study.

But - isn't there always a but? - you need have one last hurdle to get this grant/loan (but I don't know if it's still applicable). You need to have a part time job for 8 hours per week (they tried to increase it to 11, not sure if they succeeded), or have a parent working here for 8 hours per week or more.

Good Luck, you have around 3 weeks to get onto the clearing houses for available places and secure yourself a spot And look around, because there are easier student towns where you could find part time work, not least the likes of Rotterdam or Eindhoven.

Chris, what's your skill set? What kind of work you looking for? I've been over here 9 months, things going well considering a from scratch start. Steep learning curve.

I'm really good with computers and games design pretty much but I can also do manual labor too.
