You will never be an Aussie?
By definition (my definition) an Aussie is someone who is a citizen of Australia but by the views of Australian society...
No matter how long you have been here or how much you have contributed to the Oz society if you were born overseas and speak differently you will NEVER be regarded as an Aussie despite having that piece of paper known as cert of citizenship?

Not strictly true - if you were born overseas but achieve something great or are in the public domain then you will be seen as Australian but as for the rest of us, well lets be honest, we are not really are we?

A few examples: Mel Gibson; Neil and Tim Finn; Russell Crowe; Robin, Maurice and Barry Gibb, all born in other countries but were classed by Australians as Australian.

I reckon the Gibb brothers were hit in the gooley's by a surf board. Doesn't that make them Australian

The only one I heard being claimed as an Aussie was Russell Crowe. That is different though, these people are living in the states and quite willingly so. We otoh chose to live here and are not rich or famous, well not me.

We can't all be famous now can we Can we conclude the criteria to become an Aussie is to be rich and famous? That rules me out! Although being famous on the other end of the spectrum might be achievable

I am considered an Australian right up until the point I open my mouth... after that I'm a Pom and will be as long as I have a hole in my backside.
