My stepson is 21 and I say don't ask, just do. He knows that if I ask him to tidy and he doesn't then it all gets collected up in black bags and put in the garage - if it is still there on bin day it goes in - you only have to do this once - mind you it is easier when they are older as you don't have to replace any of it as they are earning their own money.

Not tidy room, then no socialising. That's the rule with my daughter. If she has no social arrangements, then the laptop can get confiscated. She can't live without it.

My son reckons he cant find anything if he tidies his desk, so why bother!

They start telling you off for drinking, staying out late and not letting them know where you are

They start telling you what to wear.
Their clothes are handed down to you.
They ask you when are you going to bed.

You start worrying about them making you a grandparent by accident
You can only just rest your chin on your sons shoulder when he gives you a hug.
Your daughter borrows your shoes/boots.
You don't like/understand the music they're listening to.

They do have a drink every now and then, so I don't think they will be too harsh on us about drinking... just yet!

Easy for me to say - controlling my 5 & 3yr old girls is still just about managable with simple bribery at the moment, but the writing is on the wall - I see LOTS of attitude growing already....
