When I was back in the UK a couple of years ago we took our kids to a small zoo/farm (Folly Farm in Pembs). There were a couple of tortoises humping in the pen that day. Didn't get the same sort of noise but it was a funny sight

I disagree with incest among tortoises - can lead to unwanted genetic effects ! Especially in Tassie

We used to breed tortoises whilst in England and some of them were large African tortoises which made a lot of loud grunting. We lived next to a park and often wondered what people thought as they walked past
