Default Yesterday evening...

Yesterday evening, while I was admiring the full moon on the balcony someone visited me...
It was a funnel-web staying on my room's door...I didn't know what kind of spider was but now I know... I closed all the doors until this morning...

Probably fit in the palm of your hand.
http://www.amonline.net.au/factsheets/funnelweb.htm

I had one in our garden, flushed out when I was hosing down the table and chairs. He/she climbed up on the table top and reared up at me as I came near.
All I had to hand was a spade, but not wanting to damage our new table, I flicked him off first.

Do you think I could see it on the grass? Bloody hell, now what? There's a seriously pissed funnel web on the lawn and i'm standing there in thongs.

Luckily for me, not for him, I saw him first.
Swing went my arm..
Clong when the spade..

There wasn't much left to see. Not so scary now Mr Spider.

When I was a lad I used to be happy to handle tarantulas. My dad and I went hunting for them on grandad's banana plantation. They weren't fussed if you picked them up.
Now I know what a funnel web or redback can do to you I treat spiders with respect... and the sole of my boots.
