I hate to say it but a great deal is down to the fact that she is a pretty 4 year old blond girl - that's another thing - aren't all 3 or 4 year olds gorgeous, why do people have to keep saying isn't she a stunner - yes of course she is, she's a child.

pure ignorance on my behalf mate :o i dont go out of my way to look for doom and gloom but i know its out there. funny thing is, grace, my eldest, asked me the same question "why the big deal over one kid?". :o :o

its pretty hard at the moment though not to get caught up in it all, youd have to live on mars to miss it, 24/7 coverage

There isnt a shred of genuine goodwill in the medias beat-up of this-its as tongue in cheek and cynical as everything else they do.

If you read it it says he packed his bags so although 'missing' he is technically a runaway and went by his own accord. Runaways don't get as much publicity as those who are thought to have been kidnapped. Wasted resources looking for someone who doesn't want to be found. Sad but true. A sign of the times:(

Your stating the obvious really-it is a bit disturbing. its the PLU factor(people like us). Whats "funny" is that the British tabloids know all of this and in their infinate cynicism have a field day.
They almost do it tongue in cheek-knowing that the mums that couldnt give a flying for some black kid will be out in force distributing yellow ribbons.

A hundred more runaways?? I'd bet theres more like thousands! each and everyone deserving to be in a place they can call home unfortunately lifes not like that and for all we now they are happier out of the circumstances from which they ran. Most runaways go for a reason.

In Maddie's case and many others, youngsters are taken against their will and if theres the slightest chance she is still alive then media coverage may just help find her. If not I expect she'll become another poster just like the ones you seem to like flicking through.

Actually there are loads of black kids abducted in London-most don't make the news-lets face in racism in the UK is nearing Germany 1930's levels.

I think that is the nature of these forums. It can't really be helped.

every missing kid should have the same coverage as Madeline but i'm sure not as many make such a good story.

but it is a very sad fact that all the hyped up "abductions" do not involve kids from certain back grounds - we could argue that it doesn't happen but i sadly doubt that is true.

my ribbon is for anyone who is "lost" to find their way home

here' s hoping that some one somewhere gets some good news to day
