the wrong kind of rain
#1
Over here in the so called spring, we have seen nothing but rain for the last 5 weeks...every single day.
The water companies have not officially called this 'the wrong kind of rain' but they have said despite floodwaters galore, there is still a drought and a hosepipe ban until at least December. Apparently if the rain had fallen in winter, it would have soaked away and refilled reservoirs. Now it is not...hence the wrong kind of rain!
Surely if rain had fallen on frozen ground, it would have run off? Now the ground is softer, it must be more able to absorb? Or is my knowledge of basic science failing me?
As I trudge along with wellies, ski jacket and umbrella, in the pouring rain, it amuses me to think that we are in drought and people are not allowed to water their waterlogged gardens.

A Pom whinging about rain?????? That is unpatriotic of you... Its against the culture, you can probably be charged with criminal offences doing that...
Best get one of the mods to delete this post before some one official reads it and tries to deport you back to Australia....
Here... There you go... I've reported it for you.... Save you the effort.

What I don't understand from the article I was reading, was they are saying that the reservoirs are 100% full and even if the ground is rock hard, the amount of water sitting on it can only soften it and allow the water to seep through, surely? Methinks they're taking the waste bodily fluids.

Sorry to be pedantic but she's not whinging about rain, she's whinging about incompetent water companies.

Watch this space.

it is even more amusing when you are skulking along in full wet weather gear, seeing bus ads advising you of the continued drought- it can be quite hard to read the ad properly when the rain is falling so heavily!

It Seems it either rains at the wrong time or the wrong place I.e. not in the catchment areas. The irony is not lost though....

Water companies over here are models of excellence

You wouldn't get droughts or uncontrolled floods here would you?
Perhaps the UK should employ Wivenhoe's engineers if they want plenty of water on tap
