I'm not sure about recognising NVQ's but check out Early Childhood Australia. They assess overseas qualifications for migrants.
Hope this helps.

No, they didnt recognise mine so I am now in middle of the level III Teachers Assistant course- rather annoying as I have 10 years exp!
You will need a police check and the WWC (working with children) card before anyone will entertain employing you.

depends what state you are heading to?
did you do child care coordinator?
in queensland you have to deal with QLD communities
here's where to start
http://www.communities.qld.gov.au/childcare/workingcc/
go into the year of work and see if your qual is there.

If your qual isn't there it's no big deal, you send your certs off and they will assess it (if it is an NVQ 3 they will assess it to a 2 year course). It takes about a week or 2. However, some childcare settings may employ you anyway, while you are getting that sorted.
A blue card is required in QLD too.

yes, but even if your qualification isn't there they will assess it and if it is equivalent (which most uk childcare courses are) they will add it on to the list. My quals were not on there but they added them to the list after my assessment.

NVQ 2/GNVQ Intermediate = AQF Certificate II
NVQ 3/Higher National Cerificate = AQF Certificate IV
