Why do we have to call actresses "actors" all of a sudden?

Re: Why do we have to call actresses "actors" all of a sudden?
When I go for a meal and I'm served by a female, she's a waitress not a waiter, that would be absurd.
I'm married and when I'm shagging my girlfriend she's my mistress, not my mister - I'm straight OK?.
But why is it that all of a sudden are we supposed to call female actresses "actors"?

I dunno but i grew up in the 80's/90's in oz and we were taught at school that actresses were actors - its all to do with sexism but this is nothing new.

haha well you SHOULD have seen the 80's/90's here... all the guys wore shorts with long socks which turned over... and those dodgy glasses that changed depending on how much sun was out.
It has changed though... no more Skippy on TV or Gilligans island
I know what you mean though... Australia does seem to be stunted somewhat... but then its always been like that... the 10 pound pom ladies complained of the terribly old fashioned fashion available here when they arrived... But it's all good... I love it!
