I'd say it's symptomatic of the type of person.
They aren't really fresh fruit and veg types, and doughnuts, chocolate, etc. would be consumed in preference. Therefore it's sandwiches that are left over - probably corned beef.

People can not like her, but throwing sandwiches (or anything else) at her is just uncouth and stupid IMO.
