I spent some time in Darwin during my backpacking days and I liked the place
Never been to Broome but I can imagine that there is hospitality and ag. work there
I'm sure that there are more work opportunities in Darwin

Darwin itself has grown over the years (I think it might be over 100k people now) with some mining as well as import/export. Broome is smaller (obviously) - but both have a tourist/visitor trade.
Neither would attract me, and any more than a month or two and I'd probably be fit for 'going tropo'.

Next few months is probably the best time of the year. Because if that, it's pretty much tourist season - which may mean some temp jobs around I guess.

I was in Darwin last April - there is a huge amount backpacker there and lots with Irish accents - nearly thought I was a home. It a great spot for the younger soul for a few months..........sadly too late for me.
Work - lots of restaurant/bar work - hotel work - car hire offices and there is construction work up there too - saw them in the evening filling up the bars.
We left town when the Hells Angles arrived ...........

I could not stand the humid climate, but the next few months would be the best of it.

She's decided on Darwin, on the strength of the replies here, so thanks all - Broome may figure later, but she needs some cash right now and Darwin sounds like the best workwise

We spent our first four years in Darwin. Love the place. The dry season will kick in from mid April and weather should be excellent. Huge transient community. LOts of backpackers/hostels etc, some of which have job boards etc. Gum tree is also a great place to pick up local work. I'm sure she'll have heaps of fun xx
