Whinging Poms? You decide...

Tracy Grimshaw is one of the most asinine, idiotic people I've seen on TV. I don't generally condone violence but she needs a slap.
Saying that I think I've only seen Today Tonight twice but that was enough. I see the ads and scream

I genuinely think that because the country (mostly due to its media) is very insular this causes many Australians to not be exposed to the multi-cultural societies that exist in Europe and therefore less sensitive to other nations and beliefs. You only have to look at the recent outrages around the country with proposals of Islamic Schools openings. The fanfare was like that of a Hicksville US Movie

I lived in England for years and I could make exactly the same comment the other way around if I wanted to just generalise my experiences (people constantly banging on about Paki/Poles, denigrating French, Germans, southern Europeans, Turkish, papers with many condescending articles about other countries) but I realise the UK has all types of people so I wouldn't condemn all from my experiences.
Sometimes I think we only see things when we go somewhere else....we are very good at ignoring/not noticing the same issues in our own countries. Maybe something to do with mixing with different people than we are used to when we go to another country.
Too easy to retain our own pre-conceived prejudices about the countries we go to without really understanding them...

To make the above comment I think you don't understand the mix of people that are in Australia and the attitude a lot of Australians have. You should also look at the number of Australians that were born overseas or who have parents who were. Suggest you also check out the number of nationalities that live in our bigger cities and the number of Australians who are widely traveled. So yes we have our hicks/racists etc but I have seen no evidence that it is more than your country.

Everyone thats lived here longer than five minutes, knows that the Aussies ar of immigrant stock which only makes it more perplexing as to why they have such a dismissive and narky attitude to the Brits.

I must admit I hear my fair share of whinging Aussies here in London. They think because I'm Australian I might be sympathetic - they normally get a "why don't you just go home right now then?" from me, which is usually followed by some swearing at me about me an "unAustralian snob". LOL

whinging? my ears were ringing from all the aussies whinging right after the olympics last year!!
pom- so many racist uses but also used affectionatly. yes there is still racism rampant in UK society but it is also widely acknowledged that racism in all its forms is wrong and should be stamped out, yes its a flawed system but i think he UK is at least heading in the right direction.
to be perfectly honest My experience of Aus and Australians has left me thinking it may be the most racist country in the first world. i have never been in another society where complaining about racist terms is fobbed off with being told to stop whinging, shocking really.
