28 degrees MasterCard...formerly known as Wizard I think. It's a credit card but if you preload it with some cash you can withdraw with no cash advance fee / ATM charges. It also has no conversion fees on overseas currency transactions. |
Re: What would you get?
We have a Commonwealth Gold Visa. It's used for every bill (including groceries) and paid off at the end of the month.
Whenever I see that we've got a decent amount of points, I redeem them for cash and shove it straight back on the card. :)

Yes, well actually it was a replacement for the NAB Gold transaction account which does free overseas ATM withdrawals.

Re: What would you get?
Must look into citibank again. My offer says contact your personal relationships manager  but doesnt mention the 60,000 free points.
Now if i can have both:lol: Re amex - we find a lot of places wont take it or will only take it with a extra fee. Coles woolworth and their various hangers on, all take it, but flight centre etc usually want a extra fee, even jb hi fi etc wanted to charge us like 3% extra if we use amex. |

Re: What would you get?
Slightly off topic but how difficult is it going to be to get a credit card when we would have no Australia credit history, only just started work and will probably be renting until we find our feet? Anyone had any problems?

If you are wanting to front load a CC, there are specific ones you can buy/join, but technically speaking, they are not credit cards. |

Well, I had no issues preloading the 28 degree card with cash. Took money out from the BNZ machine at Auckland airport and there were no charges for using the ATM. Technically no currency conversion fees but the rate I got was NZ1.336 vs a mid-market rate at the time of NZ1.354. That's an OK rate, but from what I remember the withdrawals on the NAB Gold account have been at rates closer to the 'real' rate.

Thanks for letting us know. A mate at work today mentioned that he was looking at this card for his upcoming trip to Europe. I told him your idea of preloading it and the only issue he raised was that he wasn't sure if credit protection would apply if someone stole the card as it would be using his money rather the banks credit. I would guess that wouldn't make a difference but who knows.

Re: What would you get?
playing the waiting game now. Have the card, have requested the change to QFF rewards program but have to wait 3-5 days for the transfer request to occur. So holding off spending on it until then

Re: What would you get?
Ok, just logged online to citibank and it is now showing that I am enrolled on QFF.
So now all that is left is the spending |
