American Express Platinum card. Yes it's $900 for the annual fee, however you get 2 free supplementary card holders and they earn 1.5 points per 1$ spent.

Those points do not expire and can be transferred to any number of frequent flyer programs at any time. Qantas included but I've used mine for Virgin Atlantic flights as well and just dumped them into a newly opened Virgin Frequent flyer and spent them all.

Here's the big thing. 75,000 points for joining. Transfer that to your Qantas account straight away if you want !

You also get seriously good travel insurance for all card holders (you and supplementary) which will put most annual policies to shame. You need not book any travel on your card. It's in force all the time as a normal annual policy is.

You get free Priority Pass which gives you access to airline lounges including all Virgin Blue Lounges in Australia and of course heaps worldwide. You can take guests in with you for a small fee each.

It also includes automatic crash damage waiver for hire cars. Decline all that optional insurance.

Comes with a free Edge Platinum Credit card (normally 395$) which also gives you a free hotel room at selected 5 star hotels and a free return flight per annum. I just used the hotel room on a 1 bedroom suite as the Swissotel in Sydney.

The list goes on and you get back your $900 and then some just in benefits alone but the 75k for merely becoming a member is obscene as an offer.

Oh yes. And no interest, just pay it off monthly. Even if you get it for one year - it's worth it.

Downside being that there are a fair few places out there who refuse to take it.

I've got a couple of "pairs" - NAB Amex and MC and ANZ Amex and Visa. They probably arent the best around but I seem to have racked up 50000 since November so I am not that unhappy (no long flights in that lot either). I dont like that they have a limit and was looking at the Qantas Amex Discovery Card But I dont think I can be bothered. I always pay ours off straight away too, would hate to have to pay their interest rates!

My Homeside line of Credit visa card is teamed up with the much maligned Flybuys... the one good thing about it and I dont see any other card offering this, You get 100 bucks credit for every 12,000 dollars that goes through the account. Thats on top of the normal Fly buys awards. I'd redeem at least 500 bucks per year... seems a great option that every bill I pay gets awarded a small amount of credit back to my Card.

Its an expensive card, but if you spend $5k a month you WILL get your vaule in QFF points and it includes a rudimentary travel insurance coverage (good enough for UK travel - probably not so flash for more 'exotic' locales)

Not sure if anyone is still interested in this. I didn't go through with the original application after they rattled my cage! :D

However there is another offer for 60k points (which was running at the same time as the above) and there is also a promo code for 50% off the annual fee.

My understanding is if you enrol in Citi Qantas rewards the 60k points can be transferred 1:1...so I think that's 60k points for $125 + $49.

Promocode: PDW3B2CA at http://www.citibank.com.au/specialoffers

I just went through the gruelling process of filling this in to find that it did not give me the option to sign up for the "Citi Qantas Rewards", only the standard Citi Rewards scheme

No it doesn't.

Even the other 50k offer accessed from Qantas FF didn't give that option.

You have to call up later and ask to opt in to QF rewards...and you MUST do it BEFORE you use the card!

I think Citibank customer service and IT is diabolical, but I will probably give this one another go before the offer runs out.

Re: What would you get?

We have got a NAB pair (Visa/ amex) and they are linked to the Virgin Velocity scheme. (Virgin also have their own cards now) We have used our points to hire a seven seater for a weeks holiday x2 and have saved ourselves a fair whack of money  However if you use them for flights Virgin have an any flight any time policy thats pretty fair actually :)

I don't really like it.

The points cost is proportional to the $ cost of the seat...I'd rather take my chances on getting a seat for a fixed number of points on a flight that otherwise might cost a lot more...if you know what I mean.

I also hate that Velocity doesn't allow one-way awards on partners...there was me thinking I had enough for a one-way business on Virgin or Emirates, but nope...have to keep saving for a return now.

Well, interestingly I applied on Sunday online and sent in my supporting docs (ID proof and payslips) only yesterday and just received an email confirming that I will be receiving my card in the next week. So all approved within the space of 3 days, 1 if you count the fact that I only sent through the stuff they needed yesterday!
