Hi All
Im sorry if this question has been answered in previous quotes already, but I just wondered what paperwork/references we will need when securing long term rental in Brisbane? For example, credit checks, character references etc....
We will be landing on the 12th April and we have already secured short term rental for the first 28 days, so we will be looking at something more permanent within the first month.
I understand that it is quite difficult to get the house you want with numerous people going for it at the same time, so we want to make sure we have all of the relevant paperwork to hand to take out to help things run more smoothly...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Er - none really. Nobody here cares about your mortgage payment history overseas or your rental payments.
Its about your ability to pay your rental here in Australia. So, either financial proof that you have the funds to pay or current employers reference would be a start.

Neither of us had jobs when we signed our lease. All the rental agency wanted to see was proof of ID, and proof that we had the funds to pay the rent (we also paid 3 months up front to secure the house as time was getting pretty tight to find a place to live - we only had short term accom. for 2 weeks though)

So would you offer 3 months rent upfront, as a standard, after seeing a place you want?
Is that enough to secure a rental, without showing any other references?
Also can you barter a little bit with the letting agents etc?
Is this the same for renting in Melbs?
