I don't like people who drive over the speed limit and tailgate you when you are driving at or near the limit. I have a 50 kph limit in my area and I stick to it. There are a lot of kids and elderly about and the roads are hilly and have sharp corners. It is amazing the number of hoons who overtake on a blind bend/hill.

It is expected that people move at the speed limit except where necessary (kids crossing street, inclement weather, construction, etc). Just cruising along at 35kph in a 50kph zone is an inconvenience to everyone else on the road and is dangerous as it causes road rage and disrupts the flow of traffic. If you can't feel comfortable driving at least the speed limit on a clear sunny day then you should not be driving at all.

Likewise, if you want to go over the speed limit, thats fine, but you shouldn't get angry at anyone who is going the limit. If it bothers you, overtake when legal and safe. There is nothing wrong with sticking to the limit

Doing 25 in a 40 zone holds up a lot of traffic and is nearly 50% lower than the speed limit. All drivers need to be aware of hazards and drive accordingly. At 95 in a 110 zone in the inside lane you are doing more than 80% of the speed limit in a usually faster free flowing multi laned road. Gozit's blanket statement that if you can't drive at the speed limit, (and, Gozit, it isn't fine or even legal to drive above that limit,) you should not even be on the road is ridiculous.

I am severely jetlagged, so hope that what I have written makes sense- too tired to work out exact percentages. Going back to bed now.

Well, the "speed limit" is intended to be the maximum speed, not the minimum, you know.

Its not. I said if you feel like going over the limit don't ride up the arse of people who are going the limit and following the law.

Yes but thats in terms of (usually) not being able to be at fault of the law by going below it. Not about what is safe or in line with keeping the flow of traffic. In fact in Ontario you can be charged with "Unnecessary slow driving" which carries a fine of 2 points and $110. Driving slowly under normal conditions impedes the flow of traffic and is dangerous.

Yes, exactly. But so is driving 95 in a 110. You are going a full 15 kph below the speed limit. When i'm out driving in the country and i'm behind some nut doing 60 in an 80 that impedes the flow of traffic and is dangerous because me and all the cars behind me have to slow down unexpectedly and could cause an accident.

If you drive 15 kph below the speed limit on your road test I will guarantee that you fail. I was taught to remain within +/- 2 kph of the speed limit in order not to get an infraction on my test.

There are quite a few vehicles on the road that are not capable of 110 Ks per hour. (Garbage trucks/heavy lorrys/Tractors/vintage cars/Motorhomes/Buses even elderly drivers) on a multi lane highway this is not or should not be an issue. It's only a real issue on a multi lane highway when either the slow vehicle is out of the slow lane, or the road is very busy. If it's on a single lane road then it's the road that is more of a problem than anything else....You have to go with the lowest common denominator as that's the safest way to use that road in those conditions.

I fully agree though with people hogging the fast lane at the speed limit. It's up to the police to enforce the speed limit not other road users and those in the fast lane at the speed limit should move over if they are able to do so and just as much of a road hazard as those going above the speed limit.

Yes indeed; we've all played with the rules in our time! When driving home drunk, as irresponsible young men, my friends and I all made a point of keeping two or three m.p.h. above the speed limit when we drove carefully home late at night, on the premise that the cops were more likely to be suspicious of cars being driven below the limit.

As cunning as a fox who has just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University!

There, of course, are times when driving at a speed on the limit or even close to it is also dangerous to other road users, would you drive at the limit on snow, in heavy rain, in fog, so you need to drive to the conditions of the weather and the road, so, even if the weather is dry and there is excellent light, on a winding country road driving at, or even close to, the speed limit is frankly stupid and dangerous, to yourself, but more importantly, to other road users. I have no problem with people driving at the speed limit on poor roads, as long as I, or other drivers, are not around, and if you do crash you will not take out anyone, or anything else.

We've got a road near us that has so many crosses nailed on trees it's mad. People do the speed limit and you can't. Well you can but you'd be a moron to do it. Most of those who've crashed and burned were guys, under 25, driving utes. Retards the lot of them.

One guy overturned and went down the bank on his roof, managed to get out with minor cuts and bruises, called his girlfriend to come and get him, she decided to go as fast as she could to get there, rolled and crashed down the same bank as him. She ended up with concussion and a broken leg. Luckily no one else was involved.

Top tips:
If you are going to drive at 95 on a 100 road, at least have the courtesy to keep in the left-hand lane

If you are driving on a single-land road at least have the decency to drive at the speed limit so as not to inconvenience and frustrate other drivers. If you can't/wont/are too scared to keep to the speed limit, stay off the roads or let a real driver drive you

Of course not. That is why I mention the "clear, sunny day" when you would have no real excuse to not drive at the limit. And the speed limit should be set according to the road conditions on a clear day as to alleviate your whole second point. Everywhere I go where there are poor, winding country roads the speed limit is reduced from 80kph to 60 or even 50 kph.

Should they not lower the limit then? Thats what has been done on similar roads where many accidents have happened, not due to speeding, but due to an excessively high speed limit. The limit has been lowered and increased police presence to enforce it.

When people refuse to accept when they are wrong and instead take you through a very clearly made up on the spot explanation as to why they did a certain thing and why it was the best decision at the time based on what they knew then and can clearly explain to you now how to do it a more efficient way even though you already told them the right way to do it and had to sit and be polite through their bullshit because you are trying to show your team spirit. **** those people who can't just put their ego to one side for 5 ****ing minutes.

The amount of rubbish along the roads here in NSW - it's a total disgrace and worthy of a third world slum.

I can remember posting this grouse some years back only to be told that it's not the same in other states - still true?

I drove from Bowral to Casula a couple of days ago and the sides of the freeway were covered with trash: I really wanted to stop and take some photos but would sure as eggs is eggs would have been fined for stopping. (Another grump.)

The high winds t'other weekend ripped off the cover of our notskylight.

The excessive rains are now entering the house (fortunately via the bathroom, and it's the kids' bathroom so it's actually helpful)

I have no idea what to call the notskylight and, being astoundingly British, am not intending calling a roofer until I know I won't sound like a divvy when I try to describe the notskylight.

This in itself isn't making me grumpy (I have a high grump tolerance level) but the bloody looks MrDreamy keeps giving me when I tell him I have failed once more to sort it out is doing me nut in.

Haven't noticed it up here in QLD, really, but I'm sure some areas will be like that. I find Queensland to be pretty clean.

Maybe invest in a dashcam to record it and then complain to the local council about it. :)

The only things I regularly see on the side of the road is pillows. I have no idea how people regularly lose pillows

My grumble.... After a chat with my doc, we decided I could come off my ulcer meds about 8 months ago. Had to go back on them today as I have an ulcer. Seriously pissed off as it hurts like a bitch and it'll take a while to settle down. Buy shares in Gaviscon.

F'n tradies. Have spent a week trying to get a plumber to come and fit an outside tap, the job's worth about 100 pounds. In answer to my calls, I've had:

Can't do it, I'm on holidays
I'll come around and have a look tomorrow (never came)
I'll come around and have a look tomorrow (came, said he's come back the next day to do the job, never came)
I'll come and do it this Saturday at 12 o'clock (rang at 1pm Saturday, said he had a family emergency and would come on Monday. Came on Monday, said he'd be back at 9am Tuesday to do the job. His last words "I won't let you down". Never came back.

I'm in the UK, but I've had the same sort of thing in Australia as well.

IF THEY DON'T WANT THE JOB WHY DON'T THEY JUST BLOODY SAY SO? I'm going to give the next plumber I'm face to face with a bloody good punch in the nose - sort of a pre-emptive strike.

Too small a job for most plumbers, not worth their time (which is dumb granted but that's how they look at it). Look on noticeboards in library/supermarkets etc for handyman type person.

Scouse doesn't have the right tools. The back of the kitchen cupboard has to be drilled for the pipe, and then our solid brick wall has to be drilled from the outside so the brick won't blow out into a flippin' big hole, and there are pipes and t-junctions and all stuff like that involved :o

By the way, before Scouse worked as a pipefitting on offshore rigs, he trained as a plumber

Well all I can say is, the UK economy must be very healthy because all the tradies are obviously flat out!

But seriously.....a tap's a small job but you'd think a job like your dad's would be well worth doing!
