Mmm, sound like your mechanic is trying to make another sale......

They are all pretty much the same quality. 99% of the time you pay for an expensive one, you are actually paying for the brand-name.

Personally, I would wait until it dies, then contact RACQ (assuming you are amember), etc road service. RACQ, NRMA, RACV etc, etc, have their own branded batteries, and the best thing is that you don't have to go and get one or dispose of the old one, they do it for you. They are also usually competitively priced to buy rather than going to either your garage, Repco or Supercheap, or even Marshall Batteries, which all add in-store mark-ups.

Being a RACQ,NRMA etc member may cost a few dollars a year, but if you were to call an ordinary mechanic to start your car, miles from anywhere, you would be hit with a callout fee, mileage, labour etc...it pays to belong....

Definitely go with RAC.
Even if you are not a member they will come and fit one for you. They also carry out a full system test during the fitting, check the charge rate of the alternator and if there is a drain on your car making the battery go flat.

Their batteries are either a 2 or 3 year warranty and each state covers the warranty for the other, so if you brought and RACV battery and broke down in Sydney, NRMA will look after you.

.... and they come out to the middle of nowhere if they stuff up like they did with mine.....the tech changed the battery and forgot to reset the car computer. Travelling from northern suburbs of Brisbane to Willowbank Raceway (near Ipswich) and wondered why LED display was flickering on and off and giving funny readings......
