Weird experience - QLD driver?
Just went for an evening run, about to cross the road at a junction and saw that the driver who was about to turn into the road had considered that I may cross without looking and had stopped his car to avoid running me over. He then proceeded to wave me across with a cheery wave before going on his way.
I am not good looking, although it was a little dark, do you think he might have confused me with a policewoman? I couldn't see any foreign plates on the car. |

Re: Weird experience - QLD driver?
Regardless of what many on here say, I still say there are masses of polite, decent drivers out there.

Re: Weird experience - QLD driver?
Was the car turning left? And would that direction have taken the car across your projected path?
To this day in the UK, you should give way to pedestrians crossing a road at a junction where you are turning left. Over there it has become so impractical to attempt to do this that it has been forgotten. I think it is still actually supposed to be done in Victoria anyway. It is certainly the current rule if the junction is controlled by traffic lights. But nice to hear anyway. :) |

Exactly the same in QLD, you always give way to pedestrians, even if you have a green light.

So nice to have it confirmed that I wasn't dreaming it! And I'm not being sarky.

Really ? Are you saying if there is a green traffic light and you are turning you must give way to people crossing against the lights ? I never knew that.
From Your Keys to Driving In Queensland: When you turn at an intersection, you must give way to pedestrians crossing the road you are entering. So even if you have a green light you must give way to any pedestrians crossing the road. The lights are often sequenced so that the pedestrian crossing light is green at the same time the motorist gets the green light. |

They've just clarified some of the rules here in NSW and this is one of them - that you should give way to pedestrians when you are turning into a road.
