Wealthy Upper Class British Expats

Have you ever met any British expats that were wealthy, landed gentry types in the UK?

Or does Australia primarily attract working/middle class types (myself included)?

I have, well had an uncle in Adelaide who was a British Lord, fathers side of family, however I never met him, he died some years back and at one stage my family in UK asked me to post a letter to him, from them but posted in OZ:confused: Very mysterious.

But anyway yeah there must be some gentry in OZ then:lol:

If you are of a wealthy, landed gentry type class, why on Earth would you move to Australia?

It would be a bit far to travel to the holiday houses in the South of France/Monaco...

There probably are some Lords but that doesn't mean they are wealthy.

You mean land gentry types wouldn't find the allure of a McMansion in Perth appealing?

Perth or a tax haven like Monaco... Which one would you choose?

It would appear so:blink:

I have no idea of his wealth, however I cant imagine why anyone rolling in dosh would live in Adelaide

Maybe the contents of the mysterious letter would have revealed all

Can you give a better definition of Upper Class please ?

I know off some Wealthy Surreyites/Home County types that have come and gone. People in the City that kind of thing. Generally they come on a contract though and then go back. Most of those seem to be able to choose where they want to live.

I'm really pleased that the one thing that has sunk in, with my move to Aus, is not to take the UK class system as a given.

Can remember be as embarrassed as all hell at my Wifes, or as she was then Girlfriend attitude to the wealthy Ship Owners that were around at some of the company functions we used to attend in the UK. She refused to defer to them.... She was damn right in her attitude I've since learned. I've also Learned to laugh at the kind of attitude that wouldnt let her be served Pimms before Midday..... which really did happen to her BTW. Still that was the late 70's and I hope things have changed a lot since then.
