Default Washing machine

We need to get a washing machine as we cannot fix our 7yr old front loader Hotpoint as the spider assembly is damaged and has serious cracks. The plumber I spoke to said it's better to get a new one.

What would be a good buy and which shops to try?
Or should I buy a secondhand/recycled one through the Quokka?

Thanks

i got a 7.5 kilo front opening washing machine from the good guys for $500 in november its a phillips whirlpool

does everything i want it to do - has this water senser so it only uses enough water for how much the washing is -

has a 30min

wool and a hand wash and a daily wash plus longer and normal washing

very pleased with my washer i have to say

also when i got mine - omo or persil were giving away 12months of free washing powder if you brought a whirlpool washer during this offer period

so i saved a fortune on washing powder

We got a Bosch frontloader, because that was the one with the best review in "Choice".

Have a look at the reviews in www.choice.com.au

You need to pay to read them. But you can make a note of the month and year of the review you want. Then phone your local library to see if they have reference copies. Our local library (Joondalup) has the whole collection and you can just go in and read the report there and make a copy if you want.

A quick search of my username + Bosch should turn up at least one thread discussing white goods. I can't remember the model I got (and am too lazy to walk to the laundry right now - jetlag is a wonderful thing) but it had been, um, about 25 years since I bought a washer and I couldn't believe the programme options. There's even a 15 minute "refresher" programme that I use for the odd coloured item I would normally handwash. Impressed I am.

Got the matching dryer too, although had to get a condenser model which cost a bloody fortune.

F&P are supposed to be good (all the Antipodeans I know in Sg have them) but don't top-loaders destroy your clothes? Not that you wear delicates, Burb...as far as I know.

I've never seen the need for a dishwasher, so I can't comment.

Don't know about destroying clothes. The one I have was marketed as a top loader with a front loader action, whatever that's supposed to mean.

Yes, instead of agitating the clothes with a swivel motion the spindle moves up and down agitating the clothes more gently. My sister in Canada bought one a few years ago.
