British Airways is to begin charging passengers if they want to put more than one bag in the airline hold.
The rule comes into effect next Tuesday and will add £240 to the cost of a long haul flight and £120 to the cost of domestic and European journeys, the Daily Telegraph reports.

To penalise someone for having two small bags instead of one big one to the tune of £240 is outrageous

Re: Warning for people travelling on BA
We were gobsmacked to learn of this outrage in the recent Weekly Daily Telegraph that all long haul & short haul flights are affected (from Feb 13 2007) with the EXCEPTION of the USA, Canada, Bermuda, Caribbean, Nigeria, Brazil and Mexico. These excluded countries have a common thread-all the passengers routinely travel with excess amount of baggage in economy class and pay no excess. The rule means the max weight is 23Kg per bag per person, however, if 2 bags (combined weight of 23kg) per person will attract a charge of GBP?. The exception is bulky sporting goods, golf clubs, skis, bicycles. (what about baby gear, wheelchair etc)
Wouldn't it be better to increase fares instead. BA should be renamed as Blxxxy Arrogant or just Blxxxy Awful.
All migrants to Australia are affected and we will not be flying with BA again.

Re: Warning for people travelling on BA
It's called 'nickel and diming' here and it's not just BA ...
Some airlines now charge extra for better seats or to get a seat assigned before flight. Some examples:
Air Canada charges customers traveling on its lowest fares an extra fee to get a pre-flight seat assignment.
Virgin Atlantic customers pay $75 more at check-in for an exit row seat on trans-Atlantic flights.
United Airlines charges a distance-based fee or a higher one-time fee for Economy Plus seating, which includes exit rows.
Northwest fliers now will pay extra for more comfortable seats, including exit row and some aisle seats.
And so it goes on

Complain with your wallets. Don't use BA - why anyone would is beyond me - rude stewards, relatively old planes etc etc. I'm sure the baggage handlers will soon be out on strike if they only get large heavy bags instead of smaller lighter ones.

BA gets it in the neck, as usual, over it's new baggage rules.
