Walter Mitty

How many posters on here are being really honest about themselves?

How many are living out a fantasy life online?

There are one or two who would need several lifetimes to have achieved/done all the things they claim?

I have met a lot of fantasists professionally.....I suspect I have met a few on here;)

What do others think?

I have no idea about others except for ROMFT;) who is actually a MI5 agent.

But avatars give me 'pictures' of people and yours always makes me think of a creepy school caretaker type fella:eek: Am sure you're not tho:sneaky:

I'm sure it is really a pic of someone I 'should' be aware of, however, I am a numpty so forgive my ignorance:p

I have met one who talked complete BS and I realised after meeting him a long time ago that he posted complete BS on here. I do believe that other posters have since realised this too. What I don't understand is that if you are going to post lies then don't meet people as they very quickly realise it is not true.

Crickey I often think there's an incredible amount of mundanity on here. I tend to present my best side I guess - never starting threads like 'thrush - who else suffers like me?' or 'acne - can anyone help?'

Not sure if there's anyone I'd consider a fantasist - maybe present best side only - a bit like me.

The issue requires the insight of an eminent, highly credentialed psychologist.

Re: Walter Mitty

Are you expecting the truth on an internet forum ? The anonymity of it is just a breeding ground for, 'tall stories'. Internet is sometimes nothing more than, 'bloke down the pub said.'

Some stories are to personal to really tell online. Some people don't really understand their own stories ! Some people don't so much emigrate as run away. Who would want to admit to that ?

Dig to far beneath the surface and, 'why should I tell you ?' will surface. It can get all a bit, 'me too' anyway on internet forums. I've realised some people will put up with just about anything once they've emigrated and still insist everything is great. Why ? However, there are people in their own home town that will put on a great pretence.

It could come down to them being a BS artist no matter where they are. Emigration is great for reinventing oneself. If you've a mind to and if you can keep it up convincingly. Some people emigrate more 'honestly' than others and you'll never get the truth. Ultimately who cares ?

By honestly I mean before people just emigrated as a lifestyle choice with, 'I want' as their only motivation.

I wonder if I will get reamed for this post ?

I met many people, who were fantasists, in my previous careers as a lion tamer and rocket scientist. I just seem to attract them.
