Tragic, but he, along with all the others, was in an "at risk" category. The small amount of fatalites globally, is still on par with normal flu outbreaks. The only difference is that the vast amount of media hype.

Believe what you want - it is supposed to be a free world after all?
Don't ignore the specialst that has warned that WA will be hit hard as he is unfortunately correct. With so many people in the at risk category in WA it is going to be a full on pandemic here.

Because of their pre-disposition to certain health conditions, all indigenous Australians are being treated as being in the high risk category. For the majority of people the symptoms are so mild as to be even less serious than seasonal flu.

Oddly enough, all states and federal authorities, are now downgrading pandemic alerts.

Re: WA man dies from swine flu
- Monday - He was transferred from Alice Springs hospital to the intensive care unit at Royal Adelaide Hospital as Alice Springs could not care for him appropriately any longer. He had a number of serious illnesses, including pneumonia.
- Thursday - He tested positive to swine flu.
- Friday - He died, from Swine Flu ? or maybe something else.

Having said that, if it gets into the remote aboriginal communities like appears to have happened there could be many deaths because of all the underlying health issues in those communities, like rheumatic fever and the resultant congestive heart failure that so many of them have.

though you could argue here it amounts to the same thing...a modern disease carried by industrialisation wrecking havoc on an older civilisation...2 worlds colliding..nothing has changed in 200 years.
This is one of the things people have to remember about this issue - it's not about government spending or policy - some people are inherently high-risk.

I don't agree, I think this whole swine flu thing is a beat up. It's really bad news for any future serious pandemic, like bird flu or something like the Spanish flu that hit after WWI as people will be complacent after this.
