what I feel from almost 1 year driving in Perth is that Majority of them dont like to travel at speed limit and when I drive at speed limit they drive just behind me without keeping the safe distance at all. I am sure if I break hard they never can stop their car. Note that I dont HAVE TO drive at speed limit as it is a LIMIT!

Well I am a WA Driver; I never had a ticket in all my years of driving in OZ; Never had an accident; I don't tailgate, speed or duck 'n' weave and I am courteous to other road-users. I got breathalysed for the first time last month: cops didn't even bother getting out of their car after they did a check on me.
I reckon your problem is that there are too many Poms on the road here. I was in the UK a couple of years back. I lived and worked there for 4 years. I saw a lot of tailgating and about the same amount of discourtesy and "dickhead" behaviour over there that you see here. Maybe you just forgot what a dump the UK is and you need to go "back home" and remind yourselves. Look I don't know where you drive but it seems to me that you are either being nit-picky, or whiney or you simply can't drive. Cops here pick you up if you drive too slow. Now if you really want to live on the edge, go to Melbourne and drive around at peak hour. That will give you something to whine about. |

If you can't see how poor the standard of driving is in WA, I suggest you get some glasses. You can just look at the number of RTAs that happen in WA as a reflection of this. It's appalling. Until people like you admit that there is a problem with the standard of driving here it will never improve. There's a problem, that much is blatantly obvious (to most of us). |

But never in my life have I seen such bad driving till I came to Perth. Drink driving is far more rife here, 'everybody does it' my Aussie colleague bragged to me. Our ex real estate agent told me how he 'crawled to his car after a night on the piss' and drove home. Because my husband was sticking to the speed limit the other week, an aussie driver stuck his head out of the window and called him a 'W*****r' - very nice, but my husband is on L plates - who is the real 'w****R' here, its not my husband. He gets tailgated heaps of times and last week had a woman driving towards him on the main road, on the wrong side of the road - heading straight for us - bless her socks, didnt she know which side of the road to be on! It isnt the fact that there are too many POMs on the road, its the fact there are too many tossers that think speeding, drink driving, tailgating, yelling abuse at drivers sticking to the speed limit is acceptable. I dont give a shit where they are from, does it matter? The fact is the driving standards here appear to be lower, even my driving instructor said that the UK standards should be adopted here because the driving here is so appalling. Whether it be a POM, an Aussie or anyone, - whoever drives like that deserves to lose their permit. Driving is bad here, the nationality of the bad driver is not important - raising the standards and implementing harsher penalities for those caught speeding/drink driving/dangerous driver is. |

We drive delivery vehicles, taxis, road trains etc. We drive distances in excess of the length of Britain on a regular basis.
