My OH said that someone told her if we get the vitamins from a chemist we can claim the costs from centrelink. Is this true?

There's a lot to be said for using vitamins to heal/prevent illness. True a lot can be obtained through sensible eating habits but for some things only megavitamin doses are up do the job.

And pre and post Vitamin D supplement blood testing has proven that I benefit from high dose prescription Vitamin D.
When the sun shines I dont think I will go outside and get my ten minutes, I think Jesus Christ, I wont go out in it because the price is too hard to pay. I am on anti malarials which also affect my ability to absorb the sun so the obligatory 'Sunshine hit' for vitamin D, is not an option - for me at least.
I wish it was but for now I have to take supplements.

Yes but some of us cannot go out in the sun - at all, just 10 minutes or even less exposure for me will lay me up for days with the worst symptoms ever.

Re: Vitamin D deficiency.
Vit D is produced in 2 different ways, from within the body and from food from outside. You need both to produce enough vit D.
Extract from website below
"Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, meaning it is able to be dissolved in fat. While some vitamin D is supplied by the diet, most of it is made in the body. To make vitamin D, cholesterol, a sterol that is widely distributed in animal tissues and occurs in the yolk of eggs, as well as in various oils and fats, is necessary. Once cholesterol is available in the body, a slight alteration in the cholesterol molecule occurs, with one change taking place in the skin. This alteration requires the energy of sunlight (or ultraviolet light). Vitamin D deficiency, as well as rickets and osteomalacia, tends to occur in persons who do not get enough sunlight and who fail to eat foods that are rich in vitamin D."

Re: Vitamin D deficiency.
Try www.iherb.com - they do extra strength vit supplements, and a lot of PWMS use it.
(when you register, enter code YUG116 and you will get a $5 discount)
(PWMS is short for people with Multiple Sclerosis, not that I can't spell poms.)

With so many different brands, strengths and units per pack/bottle I find it's difficult to compare the prices. How much average cost difference %-wise do you find between vitamins bought at Amazon.co.uk and those bought in Aus?
