Had it done and opted for local anaesthetic. No problems at all except I didnt refrain from exerting myself for long enough. (They recomend 6-8 weeks without lifting).
I lifted our son, tore something inside which then got infected and I ended up a few weeks later getting an ambulance to hospital for 3 days. Rather painful.
Be warned!
