Hi,
We have been granted our visa and are preparing to book flights and arrange the move over to OZ. Reading a previous link it states that to get the Australian driving licence you need a very brief eye test. I have recently had a medical for a new job and they were concerned about my eyesight as I only have about 30% vision in my left eye but perfect in my right eye. BUPA contacted the DVLA who stated that as I had my licence over 10 years this was not a problem.
Does anyone know the regulations or requirements they are looking for in this test?
Please respond ASAP as time is short
Many thanks

Where are you going to? It may have a bearing on the rules and regulations. I have to wear glasses but I although there was still a theory test to swap your licence over, I didn't have to do any eye test. You should be fine.

I had a straight licence swap (NSW) but did have to do an eye-test. It was one of those opticians letter-board things.

Have dscovered though that if you have a Qld licence and are renewing it you can do it online....moneymaking exercise if ever I saw one!

Anyone know if WA have an eye sight test to swap the UK licence over?
Hubby too has problems out of one eye. But optician said its up to him if he needs glasses as one eye is perfect. They also said wasnt such a huge degree that it was urgent or needed something. Personal preference.
However it is noticable with eye test using one eye only to view.

We are of to melbourne, unfortunately for us, my cond is in operable, so I could end up not being able to drive out there.
I wonder if it is different from state to state, we have just checked the Vicroads website and that does NOT seem to require eyestest, yet we know of someone on this website who did have to have one.
Is anyone the wiser?
Thanks

How Ridiculous. Length of Licence shouldnt make any difference when it comes to eyesight and driving !! Does that mean that if I only had 30 % vision in both eyes, but had been driving for 20 years, that would be OK ?????I hope you received this response from DVLA in writing, addressed to you !!

completely uncalled for, if you are born with something that affect ONE eye and still have limited vision in the other you learn how to compensate. If I did not feel it was safe for me to drive on the roads then i would not do so either. Thanks god there are people on here who are actually helpful instead of sarcastic.
