Question Upgrading to 1st class > after tkts booked

General question.

Having recently returned from the Uk. In economy seats on Korea Air.

And wanting to thank my MIL , she has tkts booked for a flight out here in Oct/Nov 2008.

We wanted to surprise her, and upgrade her tickets to 1st class.

Is it dooable, if so , how so.. and how much lol

I like her a lot... but i aint stupid

It should be yes depending on the ticket code of class (Y and V should be updragadable by paying a difference between the fare). And the best part is that Korean Air first class is about the cheapest in the sky. But it doesnt operate flat bed seats on all sectors of the route I believe.

I'd ring the airline direct to discuss +61-2-9262-6000

The first class fare on Korean is usually about $7,800-$8,000 inc taxes but it has that overnight stop built into it I believe coming into BNE. You would normally just pay the difference.

Otherwise if cancellation is an option, the next best airline to go first with is Malaysian. Better flight connections, flat bed on all sectors and by the far the best fare other than Korean. Expect to pay $9500 inc taxes all up. Singapore normally want another $2-3k and the Malaysian product imo is a lot better.

The business class product on Malaysian is worth a look also and is cheaper. Angled Flat bed seats all the way on all sectors and excellent lounge facilities. They will also meet your relative at the gate and escort to the lounge if you ask during transfers and lay on a comp limo to and from the airport at the country of departure. Expect to pay $5,000k.

Hope that helps a bit with ideas.

MAny thanks for reply.

We returned with Korean, and very good service, albeit my son didnt like the Bimbimap dinners lol

Im not sure who she if flying with, so will try and find out. I believe she is flying Emirates. As I seem to recall her saying she is going via dubai.

Quite expensive isnt it !!!!!!!

Thought it may be about 3.5k ( aussie ) a ticket. for 1st class.

Yeah paying for first is expensive, I normally fly it, but only because I burn a lot of amex rewards to suck half or most of the cost. Otherwise it would hurt just way to much.

Why not try Business Class instead of 1st.

I read the first post and thought, jezus, he must be minted! Now it's all clear.

Get her in Business Class; if she's used to Economy, she'll be very happy. I would be - only managed to fly it 3 times, I think. Even Economy Plus would do me.

Frankly there's not a huge difference between business and first, except that the upwardly mobile tend to be found in business and have to be seen (heard...) bashing away on their laptops and generally being important. Passengers in first have already "arrived" and are generally a quieter lot!

It's almost cheaper to come one way on the Queen Mary and go back on a economy flight.
