I need to pay a deposit of $200 for an accomodation I have booked in oz dont have a credit card can I send a cheque from my nat west account to them I wil no doubt be asking even more silly questions in the next few weeks

It is possible to bank a UK sterling cheque in another country - after allowing for the exchange rate - but it is asking a lot of a company to do it just because you can't use a more usual method.

Why not ask for their bank account details and use OzForex or Tranzfers to send the cash into it?

They probably wouldnt like that much but you could get a bankers cheque in Aus dollars. It would cost them quite a bit to cash it and so you would either need to pay more to accommodate the loss they would make from bank fees (if they would do it at all) or perhaps get yourself a visa debit card pronto. Credit cards are essential if you plan on hiring a car here at any time.
