UHF radio
Hi, I am looking into buying a UHF radio for my car.
I either want a handheld one that has a good range or a fixed one that will fit into my little corolla.
Your thoughts please.

Re: UHF radio
Look at Icom, GME or Uniden for reliability. I'd pretty much ignore any other brand. A fixed unit wil give you better range with an external arial. A handheld unit not so much but go for a unit that is 5W power output thats the maximum allowed.

Re: UHF radio
Sat nav can only tell you the fixed point speed cameras. It's illegal to have any radar detecting equipment in your car here in QLD so the UHF CB is the only legal option available to you if you wish to continue break the law by speeding.
I recommend the UNIDEN UH015SX it has a built in scanner so you can listen to the police etc.etc. I find it invaluable for finding locations of accidents, alternate routes or the cause of traffic snarl ups.
The GME is a similar Aussie copy preferred by true blue Aussies it can also be expanded to scan police/ems frequencies.
Check out ebay for good deals I recommend batteryshack as a seller
Oh & for the record it is illegal for police to use a speed camera within a certain distance of a reduction in the limit ie within 200m of the sign or on a downhill gradient. Check out the QLD police website
"Speed and Red Light Camera operations must be in compliance with:
• Australian Standard 2898 – 2003 (Radar Speed Detection)
• QPS Traffic Camera Office Traffic Manual 2003
• Instructions outlined by the manufacturer of speed cameras
• The provisions of the QPS Speed Detection Operations Guide
• QPS Speed Camera (Gatso Type 24) Operations Guide."
