I've never seen this tweet thing but I've heard about it.
In today's Sunday Telegraph there's a little bit "Top tweet", quoting "Singer Anthony Callea" (Who??) as tweeting:
"Getting my car washed... forgot what colour it was! She's looking hot now and her grille is sparkling".
Is this *really* what tweeting is about? Has anyone the faintest interest in such trivia? Do people really have such tiny self-esteem that this bolsters their egos?
GHUA.

I use twitter as a chat medium for friends back in the uk - there's about 8 of us who use it that way and we can drop in and out of conversations through differing time zones.
Apart from weekly calls from MIL for the kids, its the same way I tend to use skype - one chat group we've got on there has been going for about 4 years.
Oh and Wol - Anthony Callea was an Australian Idol runnerup (well, so Wikipedia says) I mean, would you even want to know what he was saying face to face?

I've been writing procedure guidelines on its use so I run a feed composed solely of Twitterers that I "follow" - almost all from Disaster websites and news websites, and some from private individuals who monitor radio transmissions etc in the disaster and emergency world. They are often the first to report major earthquakes, tsunami alerts, tornadoes, even things like bomb explosions in Delhi and Indoneia have been spotted on Twitter long before they hit the establishedf news channels. Sounds crazy but the first we knew at work of the latest Hendra (horse virus) outbreak was from Twitter - the same with some of the announcements about H1N1 flu.
There is an add-on on Firefox which enables me to run a twitter feed down the edge of my browser window, so its always in view, which is handy.
I think it does have a place in an environment like our workplace where we need to react quickly to worldwide events - even just as a pointer to somewhere that needs monitoring. However it is annoying to have to plough through mountaiuns of rubbish to find the useful feeds to follow and I do wonder what motivates some people to use it

I used to hate Twitter with a vengeance after hearing various non-entities like Fearne Cotton etc. banging on about tweets;
however - I have found it to be an invaluable tool for finding out tour information for most bands I follow. Kind of hate myself for signing up to it, but can't deny it's been useful.
