Default TV programmes giving false info

Last night on the BBC programme 'Casualty' they had one of the nurses just deciding to move to OZ on the next plane to be with his boyfriend. His boss told him he would have no problems gettin work there as , being a UK trained nurse he would just walk into a job anywhere. No mention of skills assesment, getting a visa or anything else, and perhaps that's why there are many people posting on here just assuming they can waltz up to the border, be allowed in and have a good job next week.
Same thin happened a few months ago in Coronation street, couple decide on the spur of the moment to move to the US and work there.

I know it's fiction, but the info given as also fiction, and can/does give people totally the wrong idea.

I sometimes watch those programs that show people moving over a bit unrealistic too, how can you sum up the experience, highs and lows, of the whole experience in a short tv program.

As they are drama shows, it is presumed by the producers that people won't be stupid enough to believe the sub-plot information is expert advice ( that is why ads from financial, drug companies etc carry a disclaimer that the ad is not professional advice and that anyone seek that advice from a qualified professional).
Maybe you would like them to run similar disclaimers at the start and end of each episode......

It is a disgrace. I frequently watch Dr Who, and am regularly astounded at the poor attention paid to real science and accuracy in portrayal of Physics, particularly with respect to energy and time travel...

It's the same with Star Trek - how dare they falsely show warp speed travel and 'beam me up' technology

It's just not science

And the frequency with which simple modulation of the tachyon field across the primary deflector array seems to have the desired effect is also far too common...

Suspension of disbelief should be in the service of a good story, not just because the author was a dumbarse who couldn't do their research - eg it should be a conscious decision.

Playing around with causality in order to deliver a show with time travel is a valid decision - things would get very nasty very fast if you reflected physics in Dr Who. Not even doing the work to get even the basics right on coming to live and work in Oz is just poor writing and laziness.

The trouble with people in Eastenders etc emigrating on the spur of the moment is that, unlike sci-fi shows they're presented as 'realistic' stories and people do turn up on the US forum thinking they can just walk into a new dream life.

Not sure about TV Shows, but I was very very disappointed with my first meeting with a blond Texan Cheerleader after watching a certain video.

Hey, I thought we were keeping that between us. I may have to tell my side of the story...

You don't see all the effort that goes into the application, all you see is Peggy Mitchell waving them off

I have to admit we did apply to Canada on the basis of Bradley going off to live there with his brand new girlfriend (who he didn't live with) after he'd been seeing her a week.

A week's a long time in soapland!

<<just in case people think I'm stoopid enough to base a life changing decision on something I watched after a glass of wine and a nice dinner.

When so-called reality shows like Wanted Down Under can portray an unrealistic picture of life here and not bother to mention little things like visas and medicals, then why should a programme which is purely for entertainment, like Casualty, bother to do so?

Well just look at Wanted Down Under, that amazingly isnt fiction but it doesnt stop them dribbling the most ridiculous things.
