Hey guys,
Just wondering if Foxtel is really worth it as the TV in Melbourne isn't great and we only really watch channel 10. Does anybody know if foxtel have a sky one equivelant - where you get new episodes of lost, the fringe, simpsons, family guy etc....I asked the guy from telstra and he told me the comedy channel - I didn' have the heart to tell him! He suggested UKTV! typical.
the other option I was looking at was HD "freeview" - is it any good???
Cheers Guys,
Phill
P.S - I miss hollyoaks!

Dunno about Foxtel, but the Freeview is ok. It will not offer any "new" channels, although Ch10 will have different programming on it occasionally.
Check out www.yourtv.com.au and select your region etc and you can compare what is on on the different services...

Foxtel does give you uktv and recently BBC knowledge but hollyoaks is not aired (at least not on foxtel in nsw). Best on there for uk soaps would be corrie & eastenders which are about 1 yr old

As far as I am aware, sky is foxtels sister company
Funny law though in oz, foxtel cannot broadcast all the terrestial channels for some reason, 7, 9 & 10

you shouldnt require a freeview box to get the big terrestial's, the are through your aerial. ABC & SBS are the only channels out of the main 5 channels that you will receive via foxtel, the other's need Aerial.

We get every channel bar 7 on FOX (although they say its coming soon and im in QLD) and FOX 8 will show all the animation programs you listed (Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy, American Dad etc etc). For me FOX is a must (well FOX sports) I think I would go mad watching the local dross!

Think it depends whether you have satellite or cable (we have cable).
Most of the US comedy shows you mentioned are on Fox 8. There's a new channel called 111Hits which is where you'll find Lost nowadays.

We have Foxtel on satellite and we get everything but channel 7 on the box. So it just depends if it's satellite or cable.
I've seen most of the cartoons on Foxtel, and I've also seen Lost recently. They started playing them from the beginning at the start of Novemeber so not sure if there's a channel that play it more current & closer to the US.
Have a look at the channel guide that someone posted above. It should give you a better idea of what's on.

I guess if you want brand new simpsons or family guy then maybe consider a move to the US

There are places where you can acquire UK tv shows - don't want to name names on here but if you want you can PM me and I'll let you know where we get our stuff from.

we get all terrestrial channels bar 7 via our satellite dish.
Apparently they are waiting for a spare satellite space in 2009, before this too is available via Foxtel....
