Default travelling with lap top

We're travelling with emirates and OH wants to take his lap top, will that be his only piece of hand luggage or can he still take a small bag as hand luggage as well. Have been trawling through emirates web site with no success. When we went on reccie he didn't take it but obviously we want it this time and just wondered if he could still take ordinary hand luggage as well( every kg helps for this final journey!)

We flew out with emirates (8 weeks ago), you are allowed 1 piece of hand luggage each....up to 7 kilos. So if your not taking a bag...you'll be fine ...1 each (like wise if you have kids), but if you want a bag, and he has a bag AND a laptop...I would advise that you buy a laptop pouch and put it in one of your bags...this is what we did.

You'd probably be better off phoning Emirates. We flew with Singapore, but phoned them up 1st. We had lappy and hand luggage.

Depends largely now on which airport you fly from (if coming from the UK). The airport regs overrule the airline ones. Not all airports have the upgraded scanning machines yet, and at those withut the machines you can only take one bag. If you are going from Heathrow and certain other airports you can take the laptop separately.
Have a look HERE for your departure airport

For those going from Manchester Airport (not owned by BAA), the information is here. The summary is that the 1 bag per passenger rule was lifted on the 7th of January 2008, so you can take as many as your airline allows.

Also note: the current restrictions on the size of hand baggage taken into the restricted area of the airport remain in place with no bag larger than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm being permitted.

Cheers

Thanks every one for the replies, it is all so confusing isn't it.I never realised the airport had the biggest say so. According to what you've all said it is ok with Man.Airport for a lap top bag and hand luggage but Emirates them selves will only allow one bag. At least we know now and can organise around that.
Thanks again!
