Hi guys. I’m after some information on transferring money over to Australia. My partner and I start our new life in Brisbane on the 12 July. Up until now I’ve assumed my bank will handle the transfer but my mate mentioned today that this is not the best option as you get hammered on the exchange rate. I have opened a basic ANZ account and was thinking of transferring about 5k over just to get us started and then once I’d actually been into the ANZ and set everything up properly transfer the rest over.
Should I just use my bank and give my sister the legal right to handle any transfers or should I use a specialised company. What are the pros and cons?????

Hi
I'm afraid I am far from a font of knowledge on these things and am pretty much the same stage as yourself, however ozforex and hifx both have pretty interesting web sites and give good info and links. They are a good starting point. I also have a booklet from halo financial, so you might want to see if you can do a search for them. Good luck
