Re: top gear
UK TV no... its not broadcast that far. Some stuff is shown on foxtel ( sky ) , http://www.foxtel.com.au/channel/lineup.html , and top gear is currently shown on SBS which is a public broadcast channel.
Here's the normal tv for brisbane, and you'll understand why people go out a lot here.

Re: top gear
This constant moaning about Aus TV really winds me up. Some people have very rose tinted memories of UK TV. It's exactly the same. Mostly crap in either country. The good stuff that UK does manage to churn out hits Aus TV after a while. IMO there's certainly sod all to miss that you don't get here unless you have a hankering for East Anglia News

I know there were lots of repeats, benign soaps and lots of american rubbish on tv back home, but every now and then some new show, series, documentary or even film was created that was worth watching. The same just cant be said for here in Oz.

I'm not so sure, The UK does seem to actually generate new material every now and then that is actually quite good. I cant think of hardly anything made here that I'd consider good. There is a huge difference in the quality of the content and scheduling here compared to the Uk. I'm sure it never used to take 3 hours to watch a 2 hour film back home for starters. The adverts here are not a patch on the ones on the other side of the planet either.

It is all much of a muchness really. There's some good stuff that I have seen this past year from both sides of the pond.
From the UK, Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes for example - both brilliant. But then I really enjoyed Underbelly and Packed to the Rafters from this side too.
The rest is just American crap (both here and there ) some I like others not so much.
I do miss things like Never Mind The Buzzcocks, but I download that from the Box.bz and it's not the same without Mark Lemarr anyway Simon what's his face just can't pull the humour off IMO.
I agree about the adverts, there are too many here. But I'd rather that than have to pay a licence fee and still get them ABC only have them during the between times of programmes, which I can live with. I do like like funny ads though, all the rest I don't take any notice of

Top Gear repeated on a few Foxtel channels here including BBC Knowledge at present and you get UK Channel on Foxtel with quite a bit of stuff on.
